A cop cannot go on patrol without the necessary gear. However, the “necessary” gear for a cop on patrol is subject to the location of his patrol duty. A few tools are listed here that are considered pertinent regardless of the patrol location of a cop.
- Uniform
The first and most crucial police gear is clean, with insignia (badge and nameplate) uniform.
- Firearm
A firearm is any type of gun designed to be readily carried and used by a cop. Going on a patrol without any form of ammunition or firearm leaves a cop at significant risk. This omission not only endangers his life it also hinders the performance of his duty. It is pertinent for a cop to move around with at least a shotgun. It would always come in handy.
- Comfortable shoes/boots.
It is important to wear only comfortable and well-fitting boots or shoes when on patrol. A cop will, of course, be in them all day, and the feet will start to hurt if mistreated. For ease and comfort, at least two pairs are advisable to be carried along on patrol.
- Body armor
Body armor is protective clothing designed to absorb or deflect physical attacks. A cop on patrol must be prepared to face any form of danger or emergency. Body armor or bulletproof vest would serve as excellent protection for a cop in the case of the outbreak of any form of trouble. Hence it is essential of the police gear when on patrol.
- Radio
Situations can come up, and the need to chase a suspect would arise. A cop will have to call out locations. Cops must properly charge the radio battery before each shift.
- Flashlight and a backup
Being able to see in the dark is critical. A cop on night patrol cannot afford to leave out his flashlight when packing his police gear. A night patrol cop cannot carry out his patrol in the dark.
- Baton
It is carried as compliance and defensive tool by law-enforcement officers, security guards, and military personnel. A cop on patrol should have a side weapon apart from his firearm. Sometimes the use of a gun on a suspect might be too lethal. Hence, the use of a baton or taser would suffice.
